Colorado Recycling Law May Affect Your Business

A new recycling law may change the way you and your business dispose of certain items. Colorado passed a bill  called the “Electronics Recycling and Jobs Act – SB12-133”. The new law will ban certain electronics from disposal into landfill by state agencies, business and RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS. That means you! If you are found throwing away electronic items and equipment in your home trash can or your companies trash bins, you can be fined up to $10,000.00 by the Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPHE).

Items banned from landfills include the following: Computer, printers, fax machines, DVD Players, VCRs, CRT/LCD Displays, laptops, notebooks, ultrabooks, netbooks, peripherals, slates/tablets, TVs or anything with a 4” or larger diagonal video display. The new bill requires communities to hold Community Recycling Events at least twice a year. Call your local home owners association, city or town to find out their future plans for Recycling Events in your area.
